Most of us can say we own at least one candle, if not more. For years, I have been an avid candle consumer, purchasing candles to make my home and office smell inviting and to provide a sense of relaxation after a long day.
I noticed though that the more candles I burned, the quicker my walls and blinds were becoming covered in filmy soot. We moved the candles to various locations in our home to try and resolve the soot issue thinking that the candles were to close to the blinds, windows and walls. That didn’t work and to make matters worse, the closer I examined the problem, the more soot I found. I was surprised to find the filmy soot, not only on my walls and blinds, but also on my ceiling fans, mirrors, and even my furniture.
A decision had to be made, do I quit burning candles and give up the inviting and comforting smell or could there be another solution?
Like many of us when faced with a decision of this nature, we develop mental pro vs. con lists in our heads. It occurred to me that the black soot wasn’t the only problem with burning candles, because of the open flame candles are also a major fire hazard. I will admit I have been guilty of leaving the house with my candles burning. Thankfully I have not had the misfortune of something tragic occurring due to my irresponsibility. Some of us have not been so lucky. During 2001, an estimated 18,000 home fires started by candles were reported to public fire departments. These fires resulted in an estimated 190 civilian deaths, 1,450 civilian injuries and an estimated direct property loss of $265 million.
Weighing the options I decided, NO MORE CANDLES!! Did that mean I would never be able to come home and feel that sense of relaxation and smell those wonderful scents again? There had to be another way.
The other option came to be UnCommon Soy Scents.
